Western Australia support
Western Australian concessions, renting, health and family-law routes sit alongside federal payments and child support. Court jurisdiction is not decided just by selecting WA. Married and never-married/de facto cases can use different legislation, so ask the relevant court or legal service before relying on a general Australian guide.
Federal support and money · Family law and WA differences
Concessions and bills
The WA concessions register links utilities, health, housing, education and travel assistance. Check the administering program's accepted card, income, residence and bill-holder requirements.
Ask about hardship help as well as concessions if you are behind on bills. A directory listing is an entrypoint, not confirmation that you qualify.
Housing and rental affordability
A Housing Options Assessment identifies potential products; it is not a formal housing application. Follow the separate application and evidence requirements for the assistance you need.
WA Rent Relief has conditions for eligible private renters in arrears and at termination risk. The reviewed guidance excludes some accommodation types, including boarding/lodging and social/affordable housing. Ask an assessment service what current help fits your tenancy.
For nowhere safe to stay, use the official homelessness and Crisis Care routes. Regional coverage and intake functions differ; tell the service where you need help rather than assuming a Perth referral covers every location.
Renting, safety and bond assistance
Circle Green provides tenancy advice across WA, including accommodation types not covered by every rental-support scheme. Describe your agreement and whether you want to leave or stay.
Safe Tenancy WA has separate notice/evidence requirements for leaving and a court route for removing a perpetrator from an ongoing tenancy. Do not assume leaving cancels accrued liabilities.
Bond assistance has its own assessment and timing conditions. The reviewed guidance includes a conditional route for some already-paid costs, unlike jurisdictions that exclude a paid bond.
Family law, protection and victims assistance
The Family Court of WA explains when Commonwealth or WA legislation applies. Do not assume the Commonwealth property reforms operate identically for WA de facto cases. Legal Aid WA can help identify the relevant pathway.
Family Violence Restraining Orders and urgent police orders are distinct. Criminal Injuries Compensation separately assesses qualifying WA offences and losses; general property loss is not the same as compensable injury.
The state support register includes specialist, Aboriginal and culturally relevant services. Local availability and audience restrictions still apply.
School expenses
The Secondary Assistance Scheme has concession-card, school and application-period rules, with limited later-arrival exceptions. Use the current guidelines rather than assuming assistance follows a child automatically.
Claims for the separate WA Student Assistance Payment were closed when reviewed. Ask your school about hardship support and any applicable current assistance.
Dental, mental health and child health
Eligible adult public dental care is subsidised rather than automatically free; card, income and waiting-list conditions apply. School dental and younger-child routes have separate rules.
The Community Child Health Program offers early development and family support, with different metropolitan and country booking arrangements. Mental-health access differs between Perth/Peel and regional/remote services; use the route relevant to your location.
Travel for specialist care
PATS considers residence in a Country Health Service region, referral, nearest appropriate treatment and distance. Particular treatment and geographic exceptions exist. Ask separately about escort approval and costs; living anywhere in WA does not automatically qualify.
