Victoria support
Victorian services complement federal family assistance, child support and Medicare. Start with the problem you need help with, then check each service's card, income, residence and catchment rules. A move to Victoria does not automatically make every legal, tenancy or victims-assistance question Victorian.

Concessions and bills
Victoria's concessions directory explains which concession cards are accepted and where to apply. A child-only Health Care Card is excluded from most concessions. Being the bill account holder and living in Victoria usually matter.
Ask the relevant biller to assess the concession rather than assuming a Centrelink update automatically changes the account.
- If you cannot pay, seek hardship assistance alongside checking concessions.
Housing and homelessness
The government's renting-problems guide links urgent homelessness help, HousingVic and social-housing applications. Tell the service if you have nowhere safe to stay or your tenancy is at risk.
Social-housing eligibility and priority assessment are separate from an actual allocation. A temporary accommodation referral also does not resolve an existing lease.
Rental agreements and bond
Consumer Affairs Victoria explains the VCAT route for changing or ending a rental agreement affected by family violence. An affected occupant may have options even when not named on the agreement. Ask about tenancy, bond and past liabilities separately.
The housing guide identifies tenancy advice and advocacy. Tenant-against-tenant disputes can need a different adviser, so describe the issue when requesting help.
Homes Victoria bond loans have eligibility and voucher conditions. Government-funded and privately contributed parts of a bond are treated separately.
Safety, legal help and victims assistance
The Orange Door supports family-violence and child/family wellbeing needs through local entrypoints. Victoria Legal Aid explains separation, parenting and intervention orders; receiving advice does not automatically grant a solicitor.
Police safety notices and court Family Violence Intervention Orders have distinct functions. For new victim financial-assistance applications, use the Financial Assistance Scheme. VOCAT retains particular existing matters rather than accepting new applications.
- Seek legal help if protection and parenting orders appear inconsistent. Do not assume the newest order always overrides the other.
School expenses
The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund provides eligible assistance through schools rather than unrestricted cash. Ordinary applications were closed when reviewed. Special consideration for eligible later enrolments has separate evidence and timing requirements.
Ask your school about hardship support and which current application, if any, fits your circumstances.
Dental, mental health and child health
Public dental care has age, card and special-group pathways, with fees and exemptions. Smile Squad has a separate school-based eligibility route; it does not require Medicare or a concession card for eligible students.
Maternal and Child Health is a universal early-parenting service, including people without Medicare or eligible visas. For public mental-health assessment, find the psychiatric triage service for your local area rather than assuming every suburb uses the same contact.
Specialist travel
VPTAS supports eligible specialist travel with residence, referral, nearest-service and distance rules. Some unavailable interstate treatment has a separate route. Check escort approval, claim requirements and expenses before travel; the scheme does not cover every cost.
