Tasmania support
Tasmanian support complements federal family payments, child support and Medicare. Ask about the particular cost, housing or health need rather than assuming all single parents receive the same assistance. Eligibility, service catchments, evidence and availability differ; interstate legal or victims-assistance issues may need another jurisdiction.

Concessions and bills
The current Tasmanian concessions portal groups electricity, housing, transport, education and health assistance. Use each scheme's own conditions rather than relying on an older concessions booklet.
Check the accepted card or payment, residence rules and account-holder requirements. A listing can help you find the responsible organisation, but is not an approval.
Housing and somewhere safe tonight
Housing Connect assesses housing and homelessness needs, including family-violence situations, private-rental affordability and social-housing applications. The official page distinguishes urgent help for nowhere safe tonight from routine housing enquiries.
Tell the intake service what you need now and ask about current local options. Assessment or referral does not guarantee a bed, private rental or social-housing allocation.
Renting, bond and family violence
The Tenants' Union Tasmania provides renting advice for public and private tenants, with representation in some circumstances. Ask about the agreement, co-tenants, bond and accrued rent before assuming moving out ends liability.
Housing Connect can assess bond or arrears help, but the reviewed entrypoint does not promise a universal approval period or turnaround.
Tasmania's verified family-violence tenancy route involves the Magistrates Court ending or replacing an agreement when making an order. Do not import another state's direct-notice process. Protected tenants have particular lock-change rules.
Legal advice, protection and victims assistance
Tasmania Legal Aid offers legal-help routes for separation and court matters. Advice, representation and callback arrangements have different conditions.
Family Violence Orders, police-issued family violence orders and other restraint orders are distinct. The Victims Assistance Unit assesses qualifying Tasmanian violent-crime injury and related applications. Location, evidence and the applicable deadline matter, so ask early rather than using a generic deadline.
- Current child-safety and family-wellbeing referral options are explained by DECYP. These serve different purposes; use the route that matches the concern.
School expenses
The Student Assistance Scheme can waive eligible school levies rather than pay unrestricted cash. School sector, card and household rules apply, with particular humanitarian/visa circumstances needing individual assessment.
Ask the school about confidential hardship help if you do not qualify. Independent and Catholic-school arrangements can differ, and home education is not covered by the ordinary scheme.
Dental, mental health and child health
Adult public dental services have card and co-payment rules. Children's subsidised dental care is separate from the federal dental schedule; confirm applicable fees and eligibility with Oral Health Services Tasmania.
The government mental-health directory identifies Access Mental Health. Check the service's current contact arrangements rather than assuming a directory proves immediate treatment.
CHaPS provides child-development assessment. The government announcement confirms its statewide assessment role; ask your local child-health service or GP about current bookings and the appropriate assessment.
Patient travel
PTAS has residence, referral, distance and treatment conditions, with separate island-travel arrangements. Ask about approval and your contribution before booking; not every travel or accompanying parent's expense is covered.
