Queensland support

Queensland help sits alongside federal payments, child support and Medicare. A concession, housing assessment, school credit and legal-aid grant have different tests. Use the location relevant to the question: the rental property, the child's services or where an incident occurred may matter more than your current address.

Concessions and household costs

The Queensland concessions portal groups energy, transport, education, property and medical/disability assistance. Follow the individual program to check its card, residence, income and account-holder conditions.

Ask the administering service about changing household circumstances. Being a single parent does not mean every listed concession applies.

Housing, urgent accommodation and rental help

The housing-assistance guide separates homelessness support, RentConnect, tenancy sustainment and public/community housing. Tell the service whether you need somewhere safe now or help keeping an existing home.

Bond Loans, bridging loans and Rental Grants are different products. A loan must be repaid; an assessed grant is not automatic. The official guide has a specific combination to consider for eligible violence-related housing crises.

Tenancy and separation

QSTARS and Tenants Queensland provide independent renting advice. Explain whether you are named on the agreement, share the tenancy or live in rooming accommodation.

The Residential Tenancies Authority has a specific family-violence exit process with notice, evidence and rent-liability rules. Leaving the property does not remove every earlier debt. There are also separate pathways to continue a tenancy safely.

Legal advice, protection and victims assistance

Legal Aid Queensland provides information and advice, with a separate assessment for funded representation. Its specific contact page gives current access arrangements, including service changes and public-holiday conditions.

Police Protection Directions, Police Protection Notices and court Domestic Violence Orders have different processes. A police direction is not a universally available applicant choice.

Victim Assist Queensland assesses qualifying acts of violence in Queensland. Application routes differ by victim category, including children exposed to domestic violence.

School costs

The school-costs guide links account credits, secondary resources, transport and rural/remote assistance. A school account credit is not a payment into the parent's bank account.

Speak confidentially with the school about uniforms, activities and financial hardship. Check current scheme conditions rather than assuming the same assistance applies to every school sector.

Dental, mental health and children's care

Public dental eligibility depends on residence or school attendance, Medicare, age/school stage and concession or special-group rules. The clinical guideline includes a separate route for certain Medicare-ineligible violence survivors; ask the service about your circumstances.

Queensland's mental-health access service provides assessment and referral, with calls forming confidential medical records. The children's health portal connects local clinics and parenting support; booking and coverage vary.

Patient travel

PTSS uses referral, nearest-service and distance criteria measured from the relevant public health facility, not simply your home. Appropriate telehealth can affect eligibility. Ask the hospital about approval, escort needs and uncovered costs before booking.
