New South Wales support
Use these NSW pathways alongside federal payments, child support and Medicare. Single-parent status alone does not establish eligibility. Your income, card, housing circumstances and the location of the service or incident can matter. If you are considering separation, you can seek advice before deciding what to do.

Concessions and household bills
Service NSW Savings Finder brings together possible help with energy, transport, education, health and other costs. You can explore the finder or ask for a specialist appointment rather than needing to know a scheme's name.
Check each program's conditions and whether the bill is in your name. Receiving a federal payment or holding a concession card does not automatically apply every saving.
- Have the relevant bill and card details ready for the administering service. You do not need to share them with this website.
Housing and somewhere safe to stay
Homes NSW separates emergency accommodation, longer-term housing assessment and help accessing a private rental. Its family-violence housing page links emergency housing intake, Rent Choice Start Safely and other options.
Staying Home Leaving Violence can help eligible women and children remain in their chosen home. Leaving is not the only possible housing response, but safety planning is individual.
- A housing referral or priority assessment does not guarantee an available home. If you need somewhere tonight, use the urgent route on the official page.
Renting, bond and leaving a shared lease
Speak to a local Tenants Advice and Advocacy Service before treating a move as release from the lease or debt. Named tenants, other occupants and different accommodation types can have different routes.
NSW has a prescribed domestic-abuse termination process. Under the current guidance, the departing tenant does not notify co-tenants; the landlord does so after termination. Use the actual notice and evidence requirements, with advice if contact is unsafe.
Check Rentstart Bond Loan timing before paying or lodging a bond. Already-lodged bonds are excluded under the reviewed policy.
Legal help, protection and victims assistance
Legal Aid NSW offers routes for parenting, separation, housing, money and protection-order problems. Initial advice and funded representation are different services.
Domestic and personal apprehended violence orders are different. The Local Court explains applications; the Victims Support Scheme separately assesses counselling and financial assistance for qualifying NSW incidents. Your current address alone does not establish the relevant scheme.
School costs
NSW public-school contributions are voluntary. Speak privately with the principal or school office about hardship affecting excursions and other required costs. Core curriculum provision and optional activities should be distinguished.
- Ask the school about applicable travel or activity assistance rather than assuming a school-specific fund is available.
Dental, mental health and child health
NSW public dental eligibility differs for adults and children. Eligible children can receive public dental care even without Child Dental Benefits Schedule coverage or after that balance is used. Assessment and waiting lists still apply.
The NSW Mental Health Line provides assessment and referral. Child and family health services support early development, feeding, sleep and parent wellbeing, with local and Aboriginal service options.
Travel for specialist treatment
IPTAAS assists eligible patients with approved travel and accommodation. Residence, Medicare, referral, distance and nearest-service conditions apply. Ask separately about an accompanying parent's approval and costs before booking; not every expense is reimbursed.
